| Summary: | Before the uncovering of a thick layer of lignite, Šaleška dolina (Šaleška valley) was a quiet agricultural valley. In the middle of the valley amongst fertile fields were the villages of Škale, Preloge, Pesje and Družmirje. Because of the excavation of enormous amounts of coal the terrain started to subside, the villages had to be demolished, people relocated and fields turned into lakes. Agriculture had to give way to heavy industry and villages to the newfound socialist wonder, Titovo Velenje. |
