| Summary: | Dedicated to Monica Mason "in celebration of her 50th season with the Royal Ballet" - and she could not wish for a better present to mark so remarkable an anniversary. It is propelled by an inspired collaboration with the artist Julian Opie, who has provided a narrow strip of LED screen which runs the full width of the stage at double head height. Across this electronic walkway, white digitised passers-by stroll and go about their daily business. 12 outstanding dancers meet and part, whisper to one another, pause and move on. Their movements show all McGregor's characteristic invention: legs scissored, backs and arms arched, articulations extreme and entwined. There is a mood of mystery; sometimes the gestures recall a half-forgotten human action; the moods switch from impassioned to enraged in a split second. |
