Summary:

When the Major finds out that Tenente killed the monks, he sends him to the cellar as punishment. Majdalenka follows him, but Tenente, who found the bodies of the murdered men there, slaughters her in the basement. Pajot goes after him, but cannot find him in the dark, so he and Falac go to look for Tenent. He returns from the cellar and leaves with the Major. After some time, when Pajot and Falac return, they meet the Stranger in the chapel. They are told that Major is to blame for their daughter's death. The father of the first victim, after losing a game of cards, offers Pajot his body to be slaughtered and fed to his children. But Falac kills him. The next day, Pajot stabs and kills Falac, as the only witness to his crimes. Enter the Stranger and Tenente, who betrayed the Major, the war is over, victory is on the side of the rebels. Pajot says that Falac was the one who betrayed the Stranger to the Major and that is why he murdered him. Pajot leaves the chapel with the Stranger.
